As part of the regeneration of the Maine Road site in Manchester, a brief was set to design a series of ten decorative panels to be incorporated into the area’s street furniture.
The challenge of the design development was to take inspiration from the remaining architectural details of the early Twentieth Century housing and develop them into a contemporary pattern.
The designs needed to be simple enough to be laser cut from steel and they were also required to reflect the cultural diversity of the residents of the area.
